BIKES

A bicycle is an excellent transportation option in Moscow, whether you live on or off campus biking to class or work can be enjoyable, good for your health and clearly one of the most affordable modes of transportation that is available.

Save gas, don’t stress about finding a parking space and contribute to the University of Idaho Sustainability Plan.

Commuting in Moscow via bicycle can be done nearly 9 months of the year, and for hard core riders, some studded bike tires and several layers of clothing will allow biking year round.

The University of Idaho campus has 10 miles of streets, 20 miles of sidewalks and 1.22 miles of bike paths.

Before riding your bike to campus there are some things that Parking and Transportation Services would like to remind you about:

  • Read and become familiar with the State of Idaho Bicycle Laws
  • Buy a helmet and wear it
  • Familiarize yourself with Parking and Transportation Services Regulations on Bicycles
  • Register your bike, contact Moscow Police Department for information on registering your bike locally and also visit the National Bike Registry website for nationwide bike registry
  • Get a light so you can safely and legally ride after dark, lights must illuminate at least 500 feet ahead and also must have a reflector clearly displayed on the back of the bike, bicycles without headlights will be fined $46.50, for recent local bicycle information refer to the article titled “Bikes Light up the Night” from the September 14, 2007 issue of the Argonaut
  • Get a good bike lock that can be used every time you lock your bike, U-locks are highly recommended since they are the most difficult to break
  • Most importantly – BE SAFE – Yield to pedestrians and don’t try to be quicker than cars
