A bicycle is an excellent transportation option in Moscow, whether you live on or off campus biking to class or work can be enjoyable, good for your health and clearly one of the most affordable modes of transportation that is available.
Save gas, don’t stress about finding a parking space and contribute to the University of Idaho Sustainability Plan.
Commuting in Moscow via bicycle can be done nearly 9 months of the year, and for hard core riders, some studded bike tires and several layers of clothing will allow biking year round.
The University of Idaho campus has 10 miles of streets, 20 miles of sidewalks and 1.22 miles of bike paths.
Before riding your bike to campus there are some things that Parking and Transportation Services would like to remind you about:

Theft Prevention:
- Register your bike, it’s very inexpensive it's a theft deterrent and the only way to get a stolen bike back to you
- At the University of Idaho a good lock is more important than a good bike! Protect your investment with a quality lock like those made by Kryptonite
- Always lock your bike, even if you’re only gone for a minute, bikes do get stolen – even in Moscow
- Only lock your bike to designated bicycle racks, thieves look for lone bikes in secluded areas and bikes can be impounded by Parking and Transportation Services or Moscow Police Department if blocking disability access or other pedestrian areas
- Consider using a “beater” bike for on campus use, a good thief will break through a lock if given enough time, if you’re a serious biker having a bike just for commuting can save you the heartbreak and headache of losing a high quality, expensive bike
Parking and Transportation Services Regulations: Section F (regarding bicycles)
